Book Discussion Group: Our selection for the April book discussion is Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead by the library and pick up a copy then join us on Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. for discussion and refreshments!

Friends of the Library Annual Art Show: The Friends of the Library will be holding their annual art show April 9 – 14. Individuals who would like to submit their art are asked to drop it off at the library on Thursday, April 5 between 4 and 7 p.m. or on Saturday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be cookies and punch on Saturday April 14 to celebrate the Friends of the Library’s 50 years of service!

Author Visit: Michigan historic, true crime writer, Tobin Buhk will once again visit River Rapids Library! He will be here on Thursday, April 12, at 6 p.m. to share with our patrons his new presentation, Michigan’s Most Dangerous Women: an exploration into some of the wildest women in the history of the Great Lakes State. You will meet angry housewives who turned to arsenic to get rid of troublesome husbands; unbalanced mothers unhinged by the terrible twos; black widows and many, many more. Tobin will give us a glimpse of the Old Detroit House of Corrections, Michigan’s only penal institution for felonious females of the past.

Mom-to-Mom Sale: The Chesaning Area Friends of the Library will be holding a Momto Mom Sale on Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, Post 212. Tables are $20 to rent. Snap Circuits Program will be held on Thursday, March 22 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This hands-on, come-and-go-as-you-please program will let you try out this fun and informative game! Everyone will get the chance to try his or her hand at using these circuits to make fun and interesting designs and effects including sirens, light shows and 3D tunnels! The program is for ages 10 and up.

The Hook & Needle Group will meet Tuesday, March 27, at 1 p.m. Come sit, crochet, knit and socialize. New members are welcome!

The Adult Coloring Club will meet on Friday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants may bring their own coloring supplies or the use the supplies provided by the library. New members are encouraged to join the coloring group!

The St. Charles District Library board will meet on Sunday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m. at 132 S. Saginaw St., St. Charles. This is a public meeting.

The Book Discussion group will meet on Monday, April 9, at 6 p.m. to discuss Badlands, a novel by C.J. Box.

Ashley District Library

We are open to the public Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. We will be open the last week of March during Ashley Schools’ Spring Break, except we will open at 10 a.m. instead of 8 a.m.

The library board will be meeting Monday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome.

Our Children’s Lego Club will meet on Thursday, March 22 from 3 – 4 p.m. Parents are also welcome.

We offer access to ancestry.com where you can come in and research your family history for free. Copies are only 10 cents each.

There is one more Thursday to get your income taxes done for free. The income limit is $54,000, with no rental income, no bankruptcy filing in the last year, and no self-employment expenses over $10,000. You have to have an appointment. Call the library at (989) 847-4283, Ext. 1007 to schedule an appointment. This is a drop-off/pick-up-later service.

Writers’ Group – The Montrose-Jennings Library Writer’s Group will meet on Tuesday, March 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. This group is open to the public.
