Montrose Schools commit to offer quality preschool program
     MONTROSE – Montrose Community Schools Curriculum Director Cassandra Jackson approached the Montrose School Board during their special May 15 meeting to talk about funding preschool in Montrose. “We find the foundation for learning begins before age 5. We know that not all children get that foundation at home,” Jackson said.

Memorial Day Activities
     • Chesaning American Legion Post 212 will be conducting Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 28. Post members have decided this year they will conduct the ceremonies at different locations each year in order to pay tribute to all the fallen veterans at other locations. They will always conduct one ceremony at Wildwood Cemetery, though.

Montrose students ‘Fill a Police Car Full of Food’
     MONTROSE – On Friday, May 11, Montrose Community Schools held a food drive to benefit the Open Cupboard Food Pantry in Montrose. The food drive was a competition between classes as well as between schools. Montrose Township Police participated in the effort, allowing students to pile food in the back seats of two cruisers.

BIG ROCK TRAVEL NIGHT
      - On Wednesday, May 16, Big Rock Elementary School in Chesaning held a showcase on special education offerings at the school; music, Spanish, art and gym. The event had an airport travel theme.

Montrose summer food program set
     Montrose Community Schools will host a Summer Food Service Program for children. Free meals are available to children 18 years and under, and students up to age 26, who are enrolled in a stateapproved educational program for the mentally or physically disabled.

H&R Block announces contest winners
     This past tax season at H&R Block if customers referred a new client in to get his or her income taxes prepared at the Chesaning or Montrose office, the customers were entered into a drawing where they could win up to $200. The new clients received a 25 percent discount on their tax preparation fees.

Chesaning FFA brings home gold
     CHESANING – At the recent State FFA Career Development Events held in East Lansing, the Chesaning FFA Competed in four skills areas: Forestry, Environmental Skills, Dairy Foods and Land Conservation. There were a total of 66 Chesaning FFA Members on 14 teams, 10 from the high school and 4 from the middle school.
