Maple Syrup Festival set for April 23-25

SHEPHERD – Shepherd, the “Sweetest Little Town Anywhere Around,” is gearing up for the 52nd annual Maple Syrup Festival April 23-25. The three-day, family oriented festival includes a famous allyou can-eat pancake, maple syrup and sausage meal served at the high school Friday from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Organizers say the festival is unique because volunteers of all ages handle the activities. Proceeds from the festival provide recreational activities for youth in the Shepherd School District, maintain a community park and develop property for future events.

Activities began in March with tree tapping and syrup making. The parade marshals and 2010 Maple Syrup Queen and court will reign over the festivals activities.

Festival activities include indoor and outdoor arts and craft shows, a 5K run, children’s village, steam engine display, antique tractor show, tractor pulls, classic car displays, a chainsaw carver, a band concert and a senior citizen dance as well as pony, amusement and train rides. The event also features parades on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, the Sugar Bush building, Train Depot and two local museums.

RV parking is $5 for the entire weekend.
