Arson suspected in Clark Street house fire

CHESANING – The investigation of the Friday, May 11 house fire at 520 N. Clark St. has led law enforcement officials to suspect arson as the cause of the fire.

A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

Two families were left homeless when their home caught fire while they were away. Two pets, a dog and a cat, were lost in the fire, along with all of the belongings inside.

On May 14, Michigan State Police arson investigator Sgt. Richards went inside the home to investigate the fire’s cause, with Chesaning Village Police Chief Stacey Wilburn assisting with the investigation; however, State Police takes the lead on arson cases, Wilburn explained.

Anyone who has information about the case is encouraged to contact Sgt. Richards at (989) 402-7190; or the Arson hotline at (800) 44-ARSON; or Chief Wilburn at the Chesaning Village Police Department, (989) 845-2550.
