SANTA’S VILLAGE SEEKS CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS – Santa’s Village at the Saginaw County Fairgrounds in Chesaning needs unwanted, gently used Christmas decorations. To donate, call Sandy Sloan at (989) 277-7698, or the fairgrounds at (989) 845-2143 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.

CHESANING CHAMBER RAFFLE WINNER – The winner of the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce biweekly raffle for Wednesay, May 23, was Rob Angst, of Chesaning. Guest drawer was Phil Larner of Chesaning Neighborhood Watch.

MEET WITH SEN. KAHN’S STAFF – State Senator Roger Kahn (R-Saginaw Township) has announced that Saginaw County residents can meet with Deputy Chief of Staff Bill Adams on Thursday, May 31, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the St. Charles Village Office, 110 W. POND MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP OFFERED – The Saginaw Conservation District will offer a workshop on recreational pond and lake management for sport fishing, with a focus on vegetation management and invasive species control on Wednesday, June 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Saginaw Field and Stream Pond, 1500 N. Gleaner Road, Saginaw. The cost is $22, and checks should be made payable to the Saginaw Conservation District. REP HORN TO OFFER OFFICE HOURS IN CHESANING – Local residents can visit with Rep. Ken Horn in Chesaning on Monday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at the River Rapids District Library, 227 E. Broad St. For more information, call Horn toll free at 1-86- HORN-094 or email him at kennethhorn@house.mi.gov. Horn has scheduled ongoing office hours throughout the 94th District on the first Monday of each month. Residents who are unable to attend the office hours are encouraged to contact Horn with a question or concern.

HOT ROD POWER TOUR JUNE 3 – The 2012 Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour course will be running through Montrose and Chesaning on Sunday, June 3. Thousands of vintage vehicles are expected to participate in this year’s Power Tour. Day two of the event will run from Detroit to Muskegon, running through Montrose and Chesaning. The largest concentration of vintage vehicles traveling along M-57 between Montrose and Chesaning are expected to be there between approximately 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. according to Hot Rod Magazine sources. BIG READERS – Eight “Grand Readers” were recognized at a luncheon earlier this week. These are community citizens who volunteer their time to come into the elementary school to read to students. “They’re like extended staff members,” Big Rock Elementary School Principal Colleen Nixon said. The Grand Readers honored were: Pat Howell, Karen Richardson, Mary Kern, Mary Ellen Tithof, Ellen Kress, Nancy Rowe, Janet Gregory, and Becky Gregory.

BOOK DRIVE – Big Rock Elementary School recently held a children’s book drive. The goal is to put books into the hands of kids who don’t have books at home. As of Monday, May 21, there had been 1,956 books donated to the school. These books will be going home with students for the summer, according to Big Rock Elementary School Principal Colleen Nixon.

TWP. SUPERVISOR PRAISES STUDENTS – During the May 21 meeting of the Chesaning Union Schools Board of Education, Chesaning Township Supervisor Bob Corrin told school board members about the positive experience working with Chesaning High School seniors during the Senior Cleanup Day. A group of students worked with township officials at Wildwood Cemetery. Corrin called the students “very ambitious young people;” he said the students conducted themselves very well. Corrin also expressed appreciation to the Chesaning FFA, which donated proceeds from their Donkey Basketball event to the Chesaning Area United Appeal (CAUA). “In the next couple of weeks, you’ll see the money divided,” Corrin stated.
