Montrose Senior Center hosts Confident Caregiver Program

MONTROSE – The Montrose Township Senior Center will be the site for a Creating Confident Caregivers program, provided by Valley Area Agency on Aging and the Central Michigan Alzheimer’s Association.

Creating Confident Caregivers utilizes the Savvy Caregiver Program, an university tested program for family members caring for a loved one with dementia at home. Two hour sessions are held once a week for six weeks and led by dementia care specialists.

This program provides participants with information, skills, and attitudes to manage stress and increase effective caregiving skills.

Participants will learn about: dementia and its effects on the brain; caregiver resources; managing behaviors; improving caregiver skills; how to handle everyday activities more easily; and taking care of themselves to better care for their loved ones.

Session will be held on Mondays, June 4 through July 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Montrose Township Senior Center, 200 Alfred St., Montrose.

Care for a family member with memory loss can be provided free of charge to allow attendance at the sessions. Interested persons should ask for details when they register.
