NEW LOTHROP – The New Lothrop Farmers’ Market is currently serving a variety of locally grown produce, goods and handcrafted items. The third annual market debuted this year June 5. Now in its fourth week, there are six vendors on site with around four more expected to join in the next two weeks. New market master Bryan Cruthers said vendor applications are being sought.

Items currently available at the farmers market include kale, lettuce, Saskatoon berries, maple syrup, jams, jellies, strawberries, wood art/lawn ornaments, cookies and other baked goods, plants, rhubarb, birdhouses and greeting cards.

Its timeslot was changed for this year and times are now every Friday from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., until October.

Cost for vendors is $5 a week ($40 maximum) or $40 per season.

In previous years the farmers’ market offered items like popcorn, lemonade, purses, jewelry, plants, flowers, vegetable plants, fruit and vegetable bedding plants and meat hens. He said his hopes are for these same items to be offered in upcoming weeks, along with more vendors and seasonal produce as it becomes available.

The New Lothrop Farmers’ Market is located in downtown New Lothrop in the village parking lot next to First Merit Bank and across from Gracie’s Country Inn.

The community and area residents are encouraged to support the market.

Applications can be obtained by contacting (989) 413-2175 or blcruthers@juno.com.

Cruthers said he would like to see the market grow as much as possible. Currently, space allows for a total of around 50 vendors.
