Montrose angler entered in northern Michigan fishing contest

HOUGHTON LAKE – Michael Walker, of Montrose, was fishing in Houghton Lake, Roscommon County when he landed a tagged fish in the Houghton Lake Area Tourism Bureau’s Catch Us If You Can fishing contest.

“We are very pleased Michael caught one of the more than 100 fish tagged in the three lakes.” Dave Clouse, president of the bureau, said.

“This is our contest’s 10th anniversary and we are celebrating it in a big way with a chance to win $250,000 and a new Lund boat from Spicer’s Boat City, a major contest sponsor.”

Walker caught the 12-inch crappie on Aug. 8 while fishing with his father. They were having a successful day, hoping to catch enough fish for a family fish fry. The tag was not noticed until his father was fileting the fish. After cutting the first filet he flipped the fish over and saw the tag. Walker brought the tag into Korbinski’s Marine, Prudenville, where it was verified. He will receive a $50 gas card for bringing the fish in.

Kovoch is eligible for the grand prize drawing in April 2016 at Spicer’s Boat City for $250,000 and a new Lund boat. There is a guaranteed major prize of $500 cash and $500 in prizes. He is the seventh angler to catch a tagged fish in the contest that runs from June 1 to March 15, 2016.
