GLEANER’S TRI-COUNTY ARBOR #768 of Montrose will meet on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Montrose Railroad Depot. This will be the planning meeting for the upcoming year. The public is welcome.

• The MONTROSE FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES Aerie #4090 will be holding readings for by-laws changes as follows: first reading July 20, second reading Aug. 3, third reading and voting Aug. 17. A complete list of changes may be picked up at the Aerie.

CHESANING AMERICAN LEGION POST #212 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Legion Hall on McKeighan Road. Veterans who want more information about joining the organization may call (989) 845-3300 and leave a message.

• The MONTROSE LIONS CLUB board meets at 6:30

p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Montrose Railroad Depot, 154 W. State St.

PARK FRIENDS continue to meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. at Cole Park in Chesaning. It’s a good place to meet new friends and improve the parks. Any questions, call 845-2258.

• The CHESANING AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet for its annual picnic on Monday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. in the pavilion at Showboat Park. Chicken and beverages will be provided. Attendees should bring a passing dish and their own table service. The public is invited to attend.


• There will be a COMMUNITY SOUP SUPPER on the second Saturday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1629 Brady St., Chesaning. No reservations are needed and there is no cost. The supper is open to all. Those in need of a ride should call (989) 845-3157 Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• New Wine Church, 734 Brady St., Chesaning, holds a FREE COMMUNITY DINNER on the third Saturday of the month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Menus vary each month. Those who may need a ride can call (989) 845-7878.

• There will be a WET BURRITO DINNER at the St. Charles Masonic Temple every third Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $10. The Masons will also deliver. Call (989) 865-8568.

• St. Cyril Catholic Church, 517 E. Main St., Bannister, will hold a CHICKEN/HAM DINNER on Sunday, Sept. 10. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Dinner will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the parish hall. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 12 and under, free for preschoolers.


• The Memorial Healthcare CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the first Monday of the month from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Community Room at the Memorial Cancer Center, 721 N. Shiawassee St., Owosso. For more information, call (989) 729-4786.

• The PARKINSON’S DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Medical Arts Building at Owosso Memorial Healthcare, 721 N. Shiawassee St., Owosso. The support group provides information, encouragement, fellowship and support. For

* The Montrose Township Senior Center will host its first annual COMMUNITY YARD SALE AND CRAFT FAIR fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Indoor and outdoor rental space is available. Call (810) 639-2822 for more information.

• A QUILT TOUR will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Purchase a passport before traveling around Chesaning and St. Charles viewing beautiful quilts. All money raised goes to the St. Charles and Chesaning museums. All people completing the tour are entered to win prizes, including a stay at Creative Passions Retreats. * The Montrose Township Senior Center and many other local businesses and community groups are banding together for a SUPPLIES FOR SUCCESS DRIVE to ensure Montrose students have the essentials to learn and succeed this school year. Supplies needed include: composition books, number two pencils, erasers, colored pencils, crayons, dry erase markers, washable markers, two-pocket folders, spiral notebooks, backpacks, one, two and three inch binders, glue bottles and sticks, small scissors, hand sanitizer, facial tissue, pencil boxes or pouches, ink pens, and highlighters. To participate, purchase any of the items on the list and drop donations at the following participating businesses by Aug. 31: Montrose Township Senior Center, Riverside Market, Sav On Drugs, Dollar General, Lamb of God Fellowship, Montrose Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Catholic Church. • The Chesaning Area Emergency Relief (CAER) Center of Chesaning provides food to over 250 families in the area. This service helps needy families by providing food. Chesaning Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is happy to help by providing a CAN FOOD DRIVE. Bring any canned food item in to help the worthy cause to 201 S. Front Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 7–11.


• There will be a BACKPACK/SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Charles Elementary School. Any student in the St. Charles School District can select free needed school supplies for the next school year at the event. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church has organized the giveaway, with the support of the St. Charles Haunted House Association, St. Charles Lions Club. LINC and Mary of the Immaculate Conception parishioners.


• There will be FOOD DISTRIBUTION on the second

Methodist Church in Chesaning. Service will be at

4:30 p.m. with distribution at 5 p.m.


• Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS) announces its VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL will be held Monday, Aug. 7 - Thursday, Aug. 10 from 9. - 11:30 a.m. each day. The theme of this year’s VBS will be “Mighty Fortress.” Through lessons from the Bible, songs, crafts, and activities children will learn the truth that in Jesus, the victory is won. • Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 12741 East Road, Burt, will be holding VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Aug. 7-18 from 4 to 8 p.m. each day. There will be games, arts and crafts, music, and bible lessons. They will also participate in the Meet Up and Eat Up program sponsored by the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. This year’s theme is “Glow for Jesus. TRI-TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, at Station No. 1, 106 Spruce St. in St. Charles.

• The CHESANING/BRADY FIRE DEPARTMENT BOARD will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 9 a.m. at Station No. 1 on Brady Road in Chesaning.


• The St. Charles High School CLASS OF 1992’s 25th year reunion will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Kimberly Oaks Golf Course in St. Charles. Dinner, DJ and cash bar will be provided.
