NL gridders cruise past Bendle, 40-0

BURTON – Quarterback Avery Moore ran for two touchdowns and passed for another pair of scores last Friday night as New Lothrop’s varsity football team whitewashed host Bendle, 40-0.

Moore scored on runs of seven and one yard and passed for TD’s covering 41 and 30 yards as the Hornets moved the football at will while stifling Bendle’s offense throughout the evening.

New Lothrop wasted no time in jumping into a lead that was never threatened when LaQuan Johnson took the opening kick-off of the game and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown. Mason Ruddy booted the extra point and the Hornets were up, 7-0, with only 14 seconds played.

Moore ran for his first TD of the night midway through the first stanza to give the visitors a 13-0 advantage and Moore followed on the next NL possession with a 41-yard scoring strike to Collin Mulcahy. Moore then ran in the two-point conversion to stake the Hornets to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first.

New Lothrop tacked on two more scores in the second frame to take a 34-0 lead into the locker room and scored once in the second half, which was played mostly under the running clock rule.

New Lothrop gained 281 yards on offense to just 85 yards by Bendle.

Moore passed for 128 yards and ran for 45 more. Ruddy picked up 46 yards on the ground and caught a pair of aerials covering 30 yards. Mulcahy had two catches worth 80 yards and six points while Dylan Shaydik grabbed one pass for 30 yards and a score.

Austin Wendling anchored the stingy NL defense with nine tackles, Gavin Patterson had five stops and Ben Bigelow contributed 4.5 tackles.

New Lothrop is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in league play heading into this Friday’s Homecoming game against Bentley.
