During the first meeting of the 2018 Candlelight Walk Committee on Tuesday, Jan. 9, representatives of New Wine Church stopped by to receive the traveling Nativity Challenge trophy for the 2017 Candlelight Walk competition. The judges for the 2017 Challenge of the Nativity included AFS-USA Intercultural Programs volunteer Tammy Schiefer and international high school students Rebecca Terp (Denmark) and Laura Menthe (Switzerland). They had a difficult time narrowing the winner down from the six excellent submissions by local churches, but New Wine’s classic, wooden nativity garnered the most votes. Receiving the trophy were (front row) New Wine Church youth members Xavier and Natalia Escamilla with members of the Candlelight Committee (back row) Valina James, of The Silver Thimble, Bobbi McIntyre, of Studio 124, and Doris and Jim Amman, of the Chesaning Lions Club. Missing from the photo is Vicky Rodriguez of New Wine Church, who acted as the Nativity Challenge submission organizer.
