GOVERNMENT MEETINGS

MAPLE GROVE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, in the township hall, 17010 Lincoln Road.

MONTROSE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 in the Township Hall, 139 S. Saginaw.

CHESANING VILLAGE COUNCIL will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the council chambers at the village office, 1100 W. Broad Street.

CLUBS AND CIVIC GROUPS

• The ST. CHARLES AMERICAN LEGION POST 468 meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the American Legion Hall, St. Charles.

• The SHIAWASSEE QUILTERS meet on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St. Some of their activities include making charity quilts, quilt speakers, trunk shows, round robins, mystery quilts, prizes, free fat quarters, and tips of the months.

• The BURT AMERICAN LEGION POST #99 meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Burt Opera House, 12888 Nichols Road, Burt.

CHESANING SPORTS BOOSTERS will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. in room 401 at Chesaning High School.

• The ST. CHARLES LIONS CLUB meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the St. Charles United Methodist Church, 301 W. Belle St., St. Charles.

• The MONTROSE BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL COMMITTEE will meet at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Montrose Depot, 154 W. State St., Montrose. Visitors should contact the festival email at montroseblueberryfestival@hotmail.com one week prior to the meeting in order to be placed on the agenda.

• The TAYMOUTH TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Taymouth Township Library, 2361 E. Burt Road, Burt.

• The Montrose Historical and Telephone Pioneer Museum’s SPEAKERS PROGRAM will feature show-and-tell at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15. Attendees are encouraged to bring an item or two that they would like to talk about. This has been a fun evening every year with laughter and the chance to learn something new. Light refreshments will follow. The program is free and open to the public. The museum is located at 144 E. Hickory St., Montrose. Call (810) 639- 6644 for more information.

BAZAARS AND CRAFT SHOWS

• The Marion Springs Conservation Club, 20390 W. Brant Road, Brant, will host a GUN AND KNIFE SHOW on Sunday, Jan. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, with children ages 12 and under admitted free. For table information, contact Steve Fidler at (989) 289-6877.

CHURCHES

ST. CHARLES SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST COMMUNITY CENTER is open the first and third Thursday of every month from 6:30 until 8 p.m. The center is located at the corner of Clinton and Marcy Streets in St. Charles, and serves those who are in need of gently used clothing, household items and furniture (when available). The center also accept donations of gently used clothing, household items and furniture. Interested persons should stop by if they need assistance or have any questions.

• Trinity United Methodist Church will host DINNER AND A MOVIE on Friday, Feb. 2. Enjoy a roast beef dinner followed

by a free showing of “Hidden Figures.” Come to one or both. Dinner will be served between 5 and 7 p.m. The cost for dinner is $11 for adults, $5 for children between ages 5 and 12. The church is located 1628 W. Brady Road on the west side of town.

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop, 7495 Orchard St., will host a free DINNER AND A MOVIE on Saturday, Jan. 20, featuring the Dreamworks film “Boss Baby.” Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. with the movie at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

SCHOOLS

ST. CHARLES COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the high school/middle school cafeteria, 891 W. Walnut Street, St. Charles.

NEW LOTHROP AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, for board organization and a regular meeting in the High School Library, 9285 Easton Road, New Lothrop.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

RESPITE VOLUNTEERS OF SHIAWASSEE is offering volunteer opportunities including: helping a patient and caregiving family, helping in the office, on committees, with fundraisers, and special projects. Make a huge difference in someone’s life and your life. There will be a workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 111 S. Shiawassee St., Corunna. HEALTH AND SAFETY

• Memorial Healthcare is offering a program on PREVENTING TYPE 2 DIABETES this winter. There will be a free information session on Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Diabetes and Nutritional Counseling Center, 802 W. King St., Owosso. The workshop will start on Tuesday, Jan. 23 and meet 16 times from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. through June, then monthly through December. The actual cost of the National Diabetes Prevention Program is $450, but with the support of Memorial Healthcare Center and Michigan State University Extension, the cost of the workshop is $50 per person. FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop will host a SOUP AND PIE SUPPER on Wednesday, Jan. 17, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children. Ages 4 and under eat free. The church is located at 7495 Orchard St. in New Lothrop.

• New Wine Church, 734 Brady St., Chesaning, holds a FREE COMMUNITY DINNER on the third Saturday of the month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Menu varies each month. Those who need a ride can call (989) 845-7878.

• There will be a WET BURRITO DINNER at the St. Charles Masonic Temple every third Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $10. The Masons will also deliver. Call (989) 865-8568.

• The Montrose United Methodist Church, 158 E. State St., Montrose, will host a SOUP AND PIE SUPPER on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $6.

SUPPORT GROUPS

• The Memorial Healthcare free DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. on the third Friday of the month at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St.

• The Memorial Healthcare PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the third Monday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at the Memorial Cancer Center, 721 N. Shiawassee St., Owosso. For more information, call (989) 729-4786.
