MAPLE GROVE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, April 16, in the township hall, 17010 Lincoln Road.

MONTROSE TOWNSHIP BOARD will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 in the Township Hall, 139 S. Saginaw.

CHESANING VILLAGE COUNCIL will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the council chambers at the village office, 1100 W. Broad Street.


• The BURT AMERICAN LEGION POST #99 meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Burt Opera House, 12888 Nichols Road, Burt.

• The ST. CHARLES AMERICAN LEGION POST 468 meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the American Legion Hall, St. Charles.

• The SHIAWASSEE QUILTERS meet on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St. Some of their activities include making charity quilts, quilt speakers, trunk shows, round robins, mystery quilts, prizes, free fat quarters, and tips of the months.

CHESANING SPORTS BOOSTERS will meet on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. in room 401 at Chesaning High School.

• The ST. CHARLES LIONS CLUB meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the St. Charles United Methodist Church, 301 W. Belle St., St. Charles.

• The MONTROSE BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL COMMITTEE will meet at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Montrose Depot, 154 W. State St., Montrose. Visitors should contact the festival email at montroseblueberryfestival@hotmail.com one week prior to the meeting in order to be placed on the agenda.

• The TAYMOUTH TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Taymouth Township Library, 2361 E. Burt Road, Burt.

• The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln will be the topic for the Sunday Speaker Series at 2 p.m. on April 22 at the SHIAWASSEE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 1997 N. M-52, Owosso. Ubiquitous and enigmatic, the historical Lincoln, the literary Lincoln, even the cinematic Lincoln have all proved both fascinating and irresistible. The Civil War claimed its ultimate sacrifice and this fateful story is being told by Henry Phillips. Light refreshments will be served. The public is welcome to attend.


• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop, 7495 Orchard St., will host an AFTERNOON AT THE MOVIES on

Sunday, April 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. The featured movie will be “God’s Not Dead 2.” The church will be serving popcorn and refreshments. Everyone is welcome.

ST. CHARLES SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST COMMUNITY CENTER is open the first and third Thursday of every month from 6:30 until 8 p.m. The center is located at the corner of Clinton and Marcy Streets in St. Charles, and serves those who are in need of gently used clothing, household items and furniture (when available). The center also accept donations of gently used clothing, household items and furniture. Interested persons should stop by if they need assistance or have any questions.


• Broad Street Events presents BREAKFAST WITH THE STARS on Sunday, April 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, 15053 McKeighan Road, Chesaning. Featured guests will be the Frozen sisters and Cinderella, along with Batman and Captain America. The cost is $10 per person for the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, free for children ages 2 and under. There will also be face painting, balloon animals and more. • The Chesaning Knights of Columbus will host a HAMBURGER NIGHT from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at the Chesaning K of C Hall. The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, coney dogs, brats, sloppy joes, nachos and cheese, fries, and onion rings. Hamburger nights are open to the public.

• There will be a WET BURRITO DINNER at the St. Charles Masonic Temple every third Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $10. The Masons will also deliver. Call (989) 865-8568.

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop will host a SOUP AND PIE SUPPER on Wednesday, April 18, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children. Ages 4 and under eat free. The church is located at 7495 Orchard St. in New Lothrop.

• The Montrose Eagles Club, 11416 Vienna Road, Montrose, is having its annual BROWN BAG AUCTION on Saturday, April 21 from 5-7 p.m. Sloppy joes and chips will be available for $2. Proceeds will go towards a Montrose high school scholarship. All are welcome.


• The Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee SPRING PURSE PARTY BINGO will be Thursday, April 19 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Owosso. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 day of event, if tickets are still available. Admission includes bingo cards to play 20 games and snacks. Winners win a purse of at least $45 retail value. • Registration for the 2018-2019 school year is open for ST. CHARLES CHILDREN’S CENTER. Those interested in enrolling a child in Sunshine Learning Center Preschool or Bulldog Kids Care can pick up a registration form at St. Charles Elementary or call (989) 865-9210 to request a form be mailed to them. Sunshine Learning Center’s Preschool program is held in a safe, nurturing environment

that promotes discovery and exploration leading to physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. Sunshine Learning Center is a tuition-based program and offers three program options. Enrollment will continue until all spots are filled. Bulldog Kids Care operates year-round child care serving children ages 2 and one-half to fifth grade. It offers full day care, before- and after-school care and summer care all at an affordable price. It offers a safe and convenient environment for children to learn and play. • New Lothrop Area Public Schools is hosting a COMMUNITY MEETING/BREAKFAST with Superintendent Dr. Anthony Berthiaume on Saturday, May 5 in the high school cafeteria. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., followed by a presentation. An open forum will immediately follow the presentation. The public is invited to attend. Those attending should reserve a space by 3 p.m. on Friday, April 27 with Kelly Green at (810) 638-5091 ext. 2222, or via email at kgreen@newlothrop.k12.mi.us so organizers will know the number of meals they will be serving for the event.

ST. CHARLES COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the high school library, 881 W. Walnut Street, St. Charles.

NEW LOTHROP AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, April 16, for a regular meeting in the High School Library, 9285 Easton Rd., New Lothrop.


• Memorial Healthcare will be holding a FREE CANCER SCREENING event on Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Medical Arts Building, 721 N. Shiawassee St. in Owosso. Memorial’s oncology physician specialists will be preforming the screenings. This event is open to everyone and will include cancer screenings for breast (clinical breast exam), prostate, and skin. Lab services will also be available for Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), and a take-home colorectal cancer screening kit will be available. Pre-registration is required. Reservations can be made by contacting Memorial’s Call Center at (989) 729-6422 or toll-free at 1-866-900-6422. Walk-ins will be accepted up to one hour prior to closing.

• Memorial Healthcare’s Diabetes Support Group is hosting a presentation on DIABETIC FOOT CARE, diabetic shoes, and how to qualify for insurance coverage for footwear. This free event will be presented by a representative from the Wright and Filippis Company. Those with foot care issues due to diabetes are encouraged to attend. This event will be held on Wednesday, April 25 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Healthcare Community Wellness, Nutrition and Diabetes Center, Woodard Station (North Entrance), 317 N. • The Chesaning Middle School Builders Club will host its annual senior citizen SPRING LUNCHEON on Friday, May 11 at 11:30 in the middle school media center. Lunch will be provided by the CMS nutritional staff. Entertainment will be provided by the middle school bands. Decorative keepsakes were created and donated by the middle school art students. Any senior citizens are welcome to attend, and can reserve a seat by calling CMS at (989) 845-7040 on or before April 30. The luncheon is sponsored by the Chesaning Kiwanis Club.

• The Valley Area Agency on Aging (VAAA) will hold PUBLIC HEARINGS for the annual implementation play for fiscal year 2019 on Tuesday, May 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St., Owosso for Shiawassee County residents, and on Thursday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Brennan Senior Center, 1301 Pingree St., Flint for Genesee County residents. These public hearings will give area residents a preview of proposed services and programs for adults ages 60 and over in Genesee and Shiawassee County. Topics are expected to include caregiver services, planning for long-term card, in-home services, and priority services. Reservations are not needed for the public hearings. • The CHESANING SENIOR CENTER, 218 Church St., in the Chesaning Area Emergency Relief (CAER) Center, will celebrate April birthdays on Tuesday, April 17 with music, a 50/50 drawing, cake and ice cream, and bingo, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Call (989) 845-6565 for lunch reservations by noon on Monday, April 16.


• The KIDS’ SPRING SUCKER TOURNAMENT will be held on Saturday, April 21 on the Showboat Park shoreline in Chesaning. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. with fishing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $5 per child. Age groups are 9 and under and 10-16. Night crawlers will also be available. • Ashley Community Schools will hold a flea market, craft show and greenhouse sale on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school. The greenhouse sale will be located on the corner of Oak and New streets, behind the church, and will last until supplies are gone. Greenhouse pricing is $12 per flat, $15 per hanging basket or two for $25, and $20 per patio pot or two for $35. Items include green bell peppers, early girl tomatoes, watermelon, petunias, marigolds, cucumber, geraniums, impatiens and more. Craft show admission is $1 at the door. Concessions will be available. • St. Cyril Catholic Church in Bannister will be having its annual RUMMAGE SALE on Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. On Thursday there will be a bake sale, and Saturday will be Bag Day. All items are clean and reasonably priced. For more information, call Rosemary at (989) 862-5021.


• The Memorial Healthcare free DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. on the third Friday of the month at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St.

• The Memorial Healthcare PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP meets on the third Monday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at the Memorial Cancer Center, 721 N. Shiawassee St., Owosso. For more information, call (989) 729-4786.
