GOVERNMENT MEETINGS

CHESANING VILLAGE PLANNING COMMISSION will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 in the council chambers, 1100 W. Broad St.

CLUBS AND CIVIC GROUPS

• The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln will be the topic for the Sunday Speaker Series at 2 p.m. on April 22 at the SHIAWASSEE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 1997 N. M-52, Owosso. Ubiquitous and enigmatic, the historical Lincoln, the literary Lincoln, even the cinematic Lincoln have all proved both fascinating and irresistible. The Civil War claimed its ultimate sacrifice and this fateful story is being told by Henry Phillips. Light refreshments will be served. The public is welcome to attend.

CHESANING LIONS CLUB members will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 at the Lions Hall, 17200 Corunna Road, Chesaning.

MONTROSE AMERICAN LEGION POST #367 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Montrose Senior Citizen Center, 200 Alfred St. Any veteran who wishes to learn more about joining the legion may attend.

CHESANING AREA TASK FORCE will meet at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce office. The Task Force encourages visitors and welcomes requests to be placed on the agenda. Anyone interested in serving on the Task Force board in the future or seeking information about Task Force can call (989) 845-6061.

PARK FRIENDS continue to meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. at Cole Park in Chesaning. It’s a good place to meet new friends and improve the parks. Any questions, call 845-2258.

CHURCHES

• The First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop, 7495 Orchard St., will host an AFTERNOON AT THE MOVIES on Sunday, April 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. The featured movie will be “God’s Not Dead 2.” The church will be serving popcorn and refreshments. Everyone is welcome.

• Owosso CHRISTIAN MUSICIANS Mike Reath and Lynn Webster will share a potpourri of gospel songs collectively titled “The Greatest Love Story” on Sunday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oakley Community Church, 327 S. Main St. (N. M-52) in Oakley. Reath served for 11 years as minister of music at the Owosso Church of the Nazarene, while Webster played piano there. Their music ministries took them in different directions for a few years, but they were reunited through the Owosso-Area Community Choir. Reath has been one of the featured soloists in the choral group, which Webster directs. They have shared a number of concerts together in the past two years. FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP

• Broad Street Events presents BREAKFAST WITH THE STARS on Sunday, April 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, 15053 McKeighan Road, Chesaning. Featured guests will be the Frozen sisters and Cinderella, along with Batman and Captain America. The cost is $10 per person for the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, free for children ages 2 and under. There will also be face painting, balloon animals and more. • Montrose Eagles Aerie #4090, 11416 Vienna Road, will host a MEXICAN DINNER on Saturday, May 5 from 3 to 6 p.m. Combo plates will be $8. Take-outs will be available. Proceeds will go to the Jim Harris Memorial Award. The club is also celebrating its 34th anniversary. For more information, call (810) 639-5886.

• Montrose Eagles Aerie #4090, 11416 Vienna Road, will host an all-you-can-eat COUNTRY BREAKFAST on Sunday, April 29 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-12, and free for ages 3 and under. For takeouts, call (810) 639-5886. All are welcome.

SCHOOLS

• New Lothrop Area Public Schools is hosting a COMMUNITY MEETING/BREAKFAST with Superintendent Dr. Anthony

Berthiaume on Saturday, May 5 in the high school cafeteria. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., followed by a presentation. An open forum will immediately follow the presentation. The public is invited to attend. Those attending should reserve a space by 3 p.m. on Friday, April 27 with Kelly Green at (810) 638-5091 ext. 2222, or via email at kgreen@newlothrop.k12.mi.us so organizers will know the number of meals they will be serving for the event.

MONTROSE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 for a regular meeting in the Kuehn-Haven Middle School media center, 303 Ray St., Montrose.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

• Memorial Healthcare’s Diabetes Support Group is hosting a presentation on DIABETIC FOOT CARE, diabetic shoes, and how to qualify for insurance coverage for footwear. This free event will be presented by a representative from the Wright and Filippis Company. Those with foot care issues due to diabetes are encouraged to attend. This event will be held on Wednesday, April 25 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Healthcare Community Wellness, Nutrition and Diabetes Center, Woodard Station (North Entrance), 317 N. Elm St., Suite 202, Owosso. There is no cost or registration for attending. For more information, call (989) 729-4700.

SENIOR CITIZENS

• The Chesaning Middle School Builders Club will host its annual senior citizen SPRING LUNCHEON on Friday, May 11 at 11:30 in the middle school media center. Lunch will be provided by the CMS nutritional staff. Entertainment will be provided by the middle school bands. Decorative keepsakes were created and donated by the middle school art students. Any senior citizens are welcome to attend, and can reserve a seat by calling CMS at (989) 845-7040 on or before April 30. The luncheon is sponsored by the Chesaning Kiwanis Club.

• The Valley Area Agency on Aging (VAAA) will hold PUBLIC HEARINGS for the annual implementation play for fiscal year 2019 on Tuesday, May 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Owosso Senior Center, 300 N. Washington St., Owosso for Shiawassee County residents, and on Thursday, May

17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Brennan Senior Center, 1301 Pingree St., Flint for Genesee County residents. These public hearings will give area residents a preview of proposed services and programs for adults ages 60 and over in Genesee and Shiawassee counties. Topics are expected to include caregiver services, planning for long-term card, in-home services, and priority services. Reservations are not needed for the public hearings. BAZAARS AND CRAFT SHOWS

• Ashley Community Schools will hold a FLEA MARKET, CRAFT SHOW AND GREENHOUSE SALE on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school. The greenhouse sale will be located on the corner of Oak and New streets, behind the church, and will last until supplies are gone. Greenhouse pricing is $12 per flat, $15 per hanging basket or two for $25, and $20 per patio pot or two for $35. Items include green bell peppers, early girl tomatoes, watermelon, petunias, marigolds, cucumber, geraniums, impatiens and more. Craft show admission is $1 at the door. Concessions will be available. SUPPORT GROUPS

• The Memorial Healthcare free DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP will meet on the fourth Friday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Durand Senior Center, 8750 Monroe Road, Durand. For more information, call (989) 729-4712 or (800) 206-8706, ext. 6655.

ODDS AND ENDS

• United Financial Credit Union will offer a free seminar on RETIREMENT PLANNING on Wednesday, May 23 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the 4685 State St., Saginaw branch. This informational session can help attendees set their financial direction and answer some of their questions. Space is limited.
